In My Mailbox (38)

In My Mailbox is a weekly meme hosted by The Story Siren, in which book bloggers post about the books they've bought, borrowed or received in the past week.

Happy Mother's Day! From the library this week I took out a Mother's Day themed book: The Mother-Daughter Book Club by Heather Vogel Frederick. I've already read the most recent books in the series, Pies & Prejudice and Home for the Holidays. I also took out Matilda by Roald Dahl, which I read ages ago. My biggest bookish regret is giving away my Roald Dahl paperbacks when I bought the Roald Dahl treasury when I was a kid. The treasury is super cool, but it only has excerpts of the books. Matilda is the source of one of my greatest fears: the Chokey. I actually read somewhere that Roald Dahl wrote Chitty Chitty Bang Bang which means that he created another one of my fears: the child catcher.

More Roald Dahl! From my library bookshop I bought The BFG, which I have read but it was ages ago. I think there was a cartoon as well? I remember the basic plot and something to do with the Queen? I also bought The Secret Order of the Gumm Street Girls by Elisa Primavera because it looked strange in the best way possible.

What new books did you receive this week?

  2. Loveeee Roald Dahl! When I was younger I read The Witches and I was TERRIFIED of that book for the longest time. But I loved The BFG and Matilda!

No IMM this week, but maybe you could check out my blog anyways?

    Enjoy your reading!

  3. We love Matilda SO MUCH! My daughter isn't really old enough for the book yet (only 3), but already loves the movie. (My son, of course, loves telling her how much better the book will be.)

  4. I didn't know that Roald Dahl wrote Chitty Chitty Bang Bang - fascinating! I *still* haven't read any of his books, oops. There's a movie adaptation of The BFG which is really good.

  8. Matilda ia fantastic! Roald Dahl was such an amazing writer. Matilda is my favorite Dahl book, but I haven't read all of his books.

The Secret Order of the Gumm Street Girls is a fun book. Lots go Wizard of Oz references. Can't wait to hear what you think of it.

Just a quick FYI - Ian Fleming (he also wrote the James Bond books) wrote the book Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. The screenplay for the movie was written by Roald Dahl and Ken Hughes.
